Chowdeck announces online retail collaboration with Shoprite

Chowdeck, an on-demand online logistics and delivery company operating in the food, grocery, and medication industry, has entered a strategic collaboration with Nigeria’s retail giant Shoprite. The collaboration is expected to begin a revolution in the online supermarket ecosystem in Nigeria.

However, the short-term goal will be to enhance logistics solutions for last-mile grocery orders. This will be primarily done through Chowdeck’s mobile application and web store.

Kennedy Offor, Chowdeck’s Head of Sales and Partnerships, highlighted the significance of the collaboration. He noted that it will be vital in elevating the way Nigerians shop for groceries. The integration of Shoprite into Chowdeck’s on-demand platform expands the platform’s reach in major cities like Lagos, Ibadan, Abuja, and Port-Harcourt.

But the company is not stopping there, as it has plans for further expansion into other major cities across Nigeria. This move aligns with Chowdeck’s goal of becoming the go-to platform for on-demand services across Africa.

Shoprite, with 11,000 stock-keeping units (SKUs), can now offer its extensive product range on Chowdeck’s platform. This will provide customers with a seamless and efficient option for ordering groceries.

Chowdeck has recorded impressive growth in 2023. The company just surpassed a monthly gross merchandise value (GMV) of $1.2 million in November 2023 and now boasts over 60,000 active users. This growth is rapidly positioning it as a major player in the on-demand and last-mile delivery space.

What does the collaboration mean for Chowdeck and ShopRite?

The collaboration with Shoprite is a strategic move for Chowdeck. Primarily because it will broaden its offerings beyond traditional on-demand food delivery services. The collaboration also reflects a broader industry trend, which emphasizes the importance of diversification. The customers’ needs are constantly evolving, and diversification will be critical in meeting them.

The timing of the collaboration is strategic, especially as the holiday season approaches, and demand increases. This collaboration will offer convenient and reliable delivery services for shoppers all season round. With Shoprite’s extensive range of products now accessible through Chowdeck, the platform enhances its value proposition.

You would recall it has faced stiff competition from SPAR, Ebeano, and other rising retail giants across Nigeria. However, the collaboration echoes the retail giant’s relevance in meeting the needs of online shoppers.

The collaboration might just be enough to reshape how consumers approach holiday shopping. Chowdeck’s collaboration comes a few months after Glovo announced its partnership with Chicken Republic, and then Bolt Foods exit earlier in December.

Chowdeck’s collaboration with Shoprite is not only a testament to its ability to form strategic alliances but also a pointer to the importance of innovative collaborations in Nigeria and Africa’s logistics and supply chain industry.
